KT Studio Genie launches Genie Shorts, a native 9:16 vertical micro-drama FAST channel, powered by Amagi

Amagi, the media industry cloud company, announced that KT Studio Genie (KTSG), the content subsidiary of KT Corporation, has completed a zero-downtime migration of its linear FAST channel portfolio to the Amagi® platform. KTSG also launched Genie Shorts, a channel built natively for 9:16 vertical micro-dramas, extending distribution to Samsung TV Plus, LG Channels, and Plex across Korea, the Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East.

KTSG migrated 16 linear FAST channels, including its domestic Korean lineup and its international K-Movie and K-Drama feeds, from its previous playout vendor to the Amagi platform, moving channels over in batches with no disruption to viewers. The migration ran alongside KTSG’s push into new platforms and territories, work the company plans to continue as it expands into North America, Europe, India, and Latin America.

As part of the same transition, KTSG introduced Genie Shorts, a linear channel curating 90-to-120-second Korean micro-drama episodes for Connected TV audiences. Genie Shorts launched with 73 titles and went live on LG Channels Korea in August, 2026. Expansion to Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, and the UAE happened shortly after, with distribution on Samsung TV Plus in Europe is planned next. Built for native 9:16 delivery, the channel keeps micro-drama episodes at full video fidelity on standard 16:9 screens, while a dedicated vertical graphics layer carries channel branding and program information.

“Scalability was the deciding factor. Amagi’s single playout architecture means we incur no additional playout cost when we expand to a new platform. For a company like ours that needs to add platforms and territories quickly, that mattered most,” said Wonrak Choi, Head of Channel Business Team, KT Studio Genie. “In Q1 of this year, our FAST revenue already exceeded our full-year revenue for the previous year, with an operating profit, and that did a lot to build internal alignment behind this move.”

“KT Studio Genie is not just migrating the channels to the cloud, it’s creating a new model for bringing Korean short-form stories to global audiences,” said Jay Ganesan, SVP, APAC, Amagi. “Genie Shorts combine a native vertical viewing experience with non-disruptive monetization while Amagi’s scalable architecture enables KTSG to expand globally. We are proud to be KTSG’s partner in taking this innovation worldwide.”

KTSG is also separately testing AI-powered subtitling and translation tools, including a government-supported initiative to localize short-form dramas into Spanish ahead of a planned Latin American rollout.

The engagement further demonstrates Amagi’s continued work with Asia-Pacific content owners as they scale FAST and connected TV distribution. Genie Shorts and KTSG’s linear FAST channels are available now on Samsung TV Plus and LG Channels, with continued rollout planned across additional platforms and territories through the rest of the year.
